In conclusion the birth of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan was a turning point backwards in history for African Americans because it led to them losing rights they had earlier in time. The First KKK was the first wave of resistance to the 14th amendment and the Equal Protection, Due Process, and Citizenship Clauses. These clauses gave African Americans the right to be almost equal humans with Caucasians. The KKK resisted this by mainly harsh violence and murder. The Second KKK resisted how minorities in the United States were being treated more as equals and also being more accepted in society. They resisted this by lesser violence, and terrorism.
