Even though the different Klans shared the same ideals and beliefs, the times in which the different Klan's operated were very different from each other. In 1865 the first Ku Klux Klan started as violence from southern veterans after the civil war had ended. It was their way of trying to regain white supremacy in ways outside of the law. The resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan in 1915 brought back a strong pro-white/anti-minority rights mindset to white America with more people willing to act on it. The Ku Klux Klan is responsible for thousands of crimes against minority people. The birth of the Knights of the Ku Klux Klan was a turning point in history backwards for African Americans because they lost rights they had previously gained from the Civil War.
After 1945 the Second Klan loses the vast majority of its members and slows down in activity. In modern day there are hundreds of different chapters of Klans in the United States yet the majority of them are small and do not do any major crimes like the first two Klans.
